![]() Once they started to come out, every flavour profile was pleasantly balanced with each other. It was sweet, but it took a couple chews to really taste the sugar and maple syrup. The flavours were surprisingly mild overall. It smelled of maple syrup, butter and baked dough.ĭoes that mean it smelled like Sunday morning pancakes? They were pretty evenly squished, but I could immediately tell that there wasn’t nearly as much creme filling as they were shown on the front. The cookies look amazingly golden brown (probably because of the added colouring), but the edges are lightly browned from the baking process that helped create a faint, tantalizing caramelized baked smell.Īt 2″ tall, they’re also a great size for a little treat. How many times do you see a maple leaf cookie with this much detail in it? They included raised leaf veins and the Christie name on the cookies and even put ridges all around the edges like the tips of real maple leaves. They just don’t have as much creme filling on the inside! The great thing about these cookies is that they look almost exactly like their pictures on the front. This does make the cookie ALMOST vegan, but I’m not going to label it as vegan because I can’t be sure of the artificial flavouring agents that they used. Looking down at the ingredient list, I noticed that they used vegetable oil shortening and soy lecithin instead of butter and wheat starch and cornstarch instead of egg as binders. Personally, I have never seen anybody eat only 2 cookies in one sitting even though it looks like we should start limiting ourselves to 2 cookies since there’s 3.0g of saturated fat! The nutrition facts table lists each serving as 2 cookies (29g). But, maple syrup can actually be much stronger than regular white sugar and should be used primarily as a flavouring agent in baked goods instead of a substitute. I even like it better than honey as a sweetener. ![]() Now, I might be a little biased when it comes to maple syrup in the way that I absolutely adore maple syrup. Luckily, I live near the Peek Freans cookie outlet and I went and picked up some deliciously inexpensive boxes of cookies. More than once, I’ve realized that I cooked the review products before I put it through a test! I keep forgetting to separate what I buy for this blog from the rest of my groceries. ![]()
